Eagles First Day at Mini Camp 2010: Video

ASPLEY V MORNINGSIDE PREVIEW

Again Saturday brings another day and a tough battle for the hornets. This week it’s the reigning premiers in Morningside. Last week the hornets were absolutely pathetic and they really didn’t show any ticker and the only ticker that was shown last week was when after bushy was knocked out he threw a punch. This week it will be a monumental task to beat the premiers from last year. Morningside will be missing Lillico (knee) and price (hamstring), but they have a stack of players that can counter those losses. They still have Shelton, Hayden Wilson, Upton and kinch. The hornets new recruits are starting to get their feet under them and have played some good football the last 2 weeks, but they need to do more. The hornets coach is under some pressure to get his troops up for this game or he might on the chopping block. He seems to not have a game plan at all and it’s all about the stats instead. 1 thing the hornets have to do is, shut their traps and stop giving away 50’s. Last week they gave away 10 50’s and all them resulted in a goal or 2 at on stage

Morningside should win and win by a massive margin

ASPLEY V MT GRAVATT REVIEW

On Saturday aspley and Mt Gravatt took to the field and it was a very pathetic performance by the aspley hornets. They just looked like they didn’t want to be there and the vultures ran riot and so should the better teams do. In the first quarter it was a tight struggle for both teams and there wasn’t a clear winner and the score line showed that. But the vulture were getting plenty of the ball and Morrison was taking marks at will and Tyson hartwig couldn’t stop him. After the quarter time break the hornets absolutely capitulated. To many handballs to players that were under pressure already, to many dreadful kicks to leads that were made and there was 5 50 meter penalties given away in the space of 15 minutes and the game was split wide open.

After half and not much of a rocket from the coach again when it was needed, like the last 3 weeks. The hornets started to chip away at the vultures lead and they got the margin down to 30 points one stage and thing could happen. Than the last quarter happened and team just didn’t want to bother doing anything. The vultures kicked 12 goals 2 and 8 goals in about 10 minutes to blow the margin out to overa 100 points. This was an insipid performance and the coach just doesn’t have a clue in what he is doing and they figure a hole heap of things out before playing the best team in the comp on Saturday. If they play like this on this Saturday coming. They will get beaten by 40 goals plus. The coach needS to start worrying about the game instead of the stats

ASPLEY V MAGIES REVIEW

On Saturday aspley and the western magpies took battle at graham road and the thing to come out of this game is. Both sides will struggle. Aspley kicked the first 5 goals of the match before the magpies even touched the footy and matt shir was the main target for the hornets up forward and he kicked the first 3 goals of the game and he looked good up forward and around the ground. Once the magpies got their hands on the footy they started to get bit of momentum going forward and kicked 6 unanswered goals in a goals in a quarter and a half and aspley looked shaky at very best.

At half time the hornets looked out of sorts and looking for answers, they didn’t get a rocket up the ass like they probably should have and the first 15 minutes showed that when the magpies put another 4 goals on the board without aspley even getting a sniff of the footy. But things kicked into gear after that period. A couple of stupid free kicks and a 50 meter in that got aspley 2 quick goals and they were back in the game. After that aspley took over and ran away with the game for a comfortable 5 goal win, but not a great win for the team

ASPLEY V MAGPIES PREVIEW

The 2 new teams of the qafl state league take battle at graham road tomorrow and it could be a close game or a flogging. The western magpies are coming off a winless season where they struggles to even look like making a contest all year and a bit in fighting didn’t help either. Aspley last week struggled in all departments and just looked pretty ordinary and they need to lift to win this game of footy. The magpies need pope, dowely and co to get their hands on the ball for them to win game of footy. Aspleys new recruits have to acclimatize sooner rather than later or the season will be over. Shir, Carroll and Sheehan need to stand up this week and if they do the hornets will win and win well. Evans will want to kick a big this week and his leadership up forward and around the ground is very important to aspley doing well this week.

Aspley to win by 42 points

ASPLEY V BROADBEACH REVIEW

On Saturday broad beach took a leap forward in their movement in improving on last years performance. They were better in the clichés and well disciplined when it was needed. In the first quarter it was close, tough and pretty scrappy by both teams. Broad beach kicked the first 2 goals before aspley got a look in, zorko and derrick had their hands on the footy at every opportunity and they drove the footy deep at every opportunity with their forwards presenting well. Once aspley got their hands on the footy they started pushing forward and kicked 3 quick goals and one late in the quarter to take the lead.

the rest of the game broady just took over in the middle and looked a better side and a lot more disciplined. Aspley gave away stupid 50 meter penalties even when the coach staff told them just to shut up and cop the umpires’ decision. Tyson hartwig was aspleys best player by some way and a few new recruits did, Sean Tighe played well in the ruck when he was shifted into the middle half way through the 3rd quarter and matt trewhella giving plenty of drive and run out of defense. For broad beach their best was zorko, derrick and Russell.

Next week aspley have to play a lot better and be a lot more disciplined, they play the magpies at home on Saturday and the magpies aren’t looking very good this year, but they can’t take them lightly or they will get bitten. Broad beach take on arch rivals Southport in which shapes up too be an interesting game of footy

aspley v boadbeach preview

This should be a close hard fought game all day, the midfield and back lines of both teams have to stand up and be accounted for. Aspley have an all new line up running out on Saturday compared to their last game last year, you could see up to 18 new faces in the first 23. broadbeach have lost a few and haven’t heard much about their pick ups, but they still have zorko and Fulton leading them, that’s where they will win the game if they can get on top in the middle. Fulton can still kick a bag of goals on any given day and you do not want to sleep on this bloke, he cut you too ribbons quickly. Aspley have some quality recruits at the club and I expect them to lead the way on Saturday, they still have bushy and Brent Evans and they are quality senior footballers in any eye. This should be close all day and I reckon the hornets will get the nod over the vats by 31 points

shaun fester mugavins 100th game

Congratulations to fester aka Shaun mugavin. Fester plays his 100th game for the Morningside panthers on Sunday against across town rival Mt Gravatt in the grand final replay. Mugsy as he is known to all in aflq circles came to Morningside in 2003 from south warnambool. In his first year at the club he won a flag and was pivotal player all year. He played in Morningside’s back to back premiership the next year and 2007 he jumped across to Aspley and led the goal kicking for the club in their surge toward the top of the ladder and a run at a flag. In 2009 he went back to Morningside and was a big hand in them winning their 3rd flag in 6 years. On Sunday he plays his 100th game for the panthers and I wish him all the best and I hope he kicks a bag for this grand old team.

Go fester, oops mugsy

aflq season preview

Welcome to the new aflq season everyone, this really should be a great year of footy we all hope of course. Morningside are looking for back to back flags and Southport will be looking to redeem themselves after being run down in the last qtr by the vultures in the preliminary final. It will be a tight and close season a believe and all teams except for the magpies imo have a chance of playing finals. The n.t will be looking to play finals after a great first year in the comp.

The 3 gold coast teams this year will all have in different year I believe. Southport have been recruiting heavily and that’s no surprise to anyone after they lost the preliminary final the way they did, the problems they might run into is will they gel as a team and will most of their recruits stay the whole season because of worked issues. They will be up there all year imo, but I can’t see them winning the flag. Broady have lost a decent back man and probably there best player in wade Dickson. They still have Corey Fulton and he can kick a bag every week if he gets great supply from his midfield. I think they will struggle to get off the bottom of the ladder again this year. Labrador has recruited well and has a side on paper that can play finals and go further than the first week. There will be a few question marks over spider and if he gets through a couple of games. They have a good side but will they put it on the park every week, like they didn’t in 2008 where there was an implosion.

The Brisbane side again will be lead by the panthers and the vultures in my opinion. Thos 2 sides don’t have to do much recruiting to make their sides better. The panther have the best all round list and I honestly believe they will be hungrier this year to go back to back. Their midfield is top notch and their forward is nearly unstoppable and their backline is the best in the league. The vultures have a pretty good squad with plenty of good players to come into the squad throughout the year through injury and suspension. They will be a solid team all year and I reckon they will be there on grand final day with the panthers. The bomber have lost a few and picked up a few decent players as well. They will be in the middle of the pack and having crack at playing finals again. The magpies are going to struggle again this year. They tried to recruit some players this year and well 1 fell through and it seemed too me they put all their eggs in one basket for him. To me they still have a pineapple hotel cup mindset and that isn’t going to work in this league.

The mighty hornets, a team that was thrown into the comp at the last minute last year and with little time to get ready and to recruit players, did well with what they had and they were certainly a better than a 3 win team. With a new coach and new staff and new recruits they should be look to be on the fringe of the 5 this year. They look like a strong team across the park. I have been told carpenter will be a big pick and he could be a medal winner. I expect them to come out firing this year and to win at least 8 games.

The northern territory will be a very strong outfit again this year. Murray Davis is back coaching and he will have a decent list to pick from every week. They should win every home game and the 3 extra games they get that the league has given them in Alice Springs. They should make the 5 and get a home final and Ewing will be a huge favorite for the goal kicking medal this year and the midfield is another strong point for this team.

This year shapes up too be a cracker and I think Morningside will win back to back flags and they will play the vultures in the grand final. The grogan will go to Jacob gough.

Have great year of local footy everyone
