Camp Cable
The Oakland Raiders have now completed eight days of Camp Cable. This was the third day of contact practices, and today's was by far the most intense. Linebacker Jon Alston mixed it up with running back Darren McFadden and the units on both sides of the ball responded by ratcheting up the energy to a higher level.
Defensive end Trevor Scott called today one of the best practices he had seen as a Raider. Elaborating he added, "Coach Cable he wants to go full pads all the time. Last year we were going (shells), but he put the pads on and it’s a different mentality."
Running back Justin Fargas added, "Guys were excited, guys were physical, competing, not out of control but really competing hard and really bringing each other up. That’s what you need when you’re trying to get better."
Even though he was involved in the near fight with Jon Alston, Darren McFadden said that the intensity was what the team needed. "That way you know guys out there competing and not just going through the motions."
About his fight with Alston, McFadden added, "Yeah, I think it just got a little intense, you know going out there guys competing and you know, and it just get a little heated, so it's something that happens in practice." He further said, "[The fight] makes you want to go out there and just go even harder against them, you know. I feel like they did a great job today. They came out there, they was ready to play ball and I feel like they brought us up to the level that they were playing today."
Darrius Heyward-Bey had another practice with no obvious drops, which makes two sessions in a row after his rough start.
The Raiders offense had its first fumble today. Coach Cable credits the increased focus on ball security as the reason there have been so few.
There is still no word on the status of holdout Derrick Burgess.
