PAWS Statement On Eagles Signing Michael Vick

PAWS has been inundated with emails and phone calls from people across the country who are outraged that the Philadelphia Eagles have signed Michael Vick. We share their anger at Vick’s heinous actions against innocent dogs, and we are eager to see specifically how he will demonstrate the remorse he says he feels.

The Eagles have made their business decision and while we are deeply disappointed, we do not believe protesting will change that. Instead, we invite Michael Vick to begin to make amends for the damage he has done to an entire population of dogs – pit bulls – the only way he can: by stepping up and donating a generous portion of his salary to groups dedicated to saving them. Michael Vick will in no way serve as a spokesperson for PAWS or be allowed anywhere near our animals, but he can help us make a significant difference in their lives.

At their core, pit bulls are loving, loyal dogs. Their reputation as fighters – created by people like Michael Vick – has caused untold thousands of them to suffer and die. Groups like PAWS work very hard with extremely limited resources to educate the public that pit bulls – which were once called “the nanny breed” – can make wonderful family pets, and to place these dogs into the loving homes they deserve.

Thousands of dogs, mostly pit bulls, are killed in Philadelphia shelters each year. Michael Vick can demonstrate his commitment to righting his wrongs by supporting efforts to save them. We urge him to take swift action to do so, and we will welcome his support. While not erasing his crimes, it will ensure that something good can come of his second chance with the NFL and will ensure that his own dogs did not suffer and die in vain.

I found this on local FOX29 News Anchor Kerri Lee's Blog. She is smokin hot.
